Today we started reading The Rockpile. We got to a good stopping point until it was time to leave and go home. So far the story is pretty interesting. The characters names are pretty typical, John, Roy, Delilah, Elizabeth, & Gabriel. Only weird name there is was Sister McCandless.

Today we finished The Rockpile story. The way it ended was kind of annoying because why would you end a story on a cliffhanger, like come on now. We had a discussion about what we think happened after it ended. A few people think that the dad hit John. Others think that the dad hit the mom.

Today we did a worksheet on The Rockpile. The questions we’re pretty easy. We did a front and back page & answered the questions as a class. The conversations about the story we’re refreshing because we got to hear how everyone perceived the characters. The class conversations are always very interesting.

My Neighborhood Pt. 2

My neighborhood shaped me into loving the people around me. This neighborhood is my grandparents  neighborhood. The neighborhood is very calm and quiet, nothing ever really happens. The only bad thing that happened was that a group of people broke into the house across the street and stole all the families Christmas presents. People in the community, along with the help from a Harley Davidson biker gang, gave the family more presents and some money too. There’s also a  house that managed to catch fire, so it looks kinda ugly but that's it. Overall, the neighborhood is awesome.

Sub Day

Today we had a sub for 7th period. All we had was a worksheet that went with the Mother To Son poem. The questions were decent but I didn’t understand number 8. Overall, the class was very enjoyable. The conversations we had were interesting.

Test

Today in class we had a test over Langston Hughes’ Poetry. I received a 84 on said test. I would have been more comfortable with at least a 90. It was open note, some notes I missed while I was in the restroom, but it’s all good. Mr. Rease would like us to be at a class average of at least 80%, we were at 73%.

I, Too, Langston Hughes

Today we learned that no matter where we come from, we are all created equally. America is based around diversity, opportunity, liberty, and history. Americans all deserve the same rights. Everyone should be treated the same and everyone deserves their own freedom. No matter the struggle, we all have things we need and crave to have.

African American Culture

Throughout time, African Americans have faced multiple counts of stereotypes. Those stereotypes range from being called violent to simply liking a certain food. There are multiple ranges of cultures, religions, beliefs, and more. During slavery, even though people couldn’t talk, they would all sing to get their points heard. Although we get portrayed as things we are not, we will always know what we are.

Introduction

My name is SaNiya (pronounced Suh Ny Uh), I’m 18 years old. My expectations for this school year are to maintain a steady grade & stay above a least an 80. I want to learn about all the different cultures, including their beliefs and other things. I also want to learn about how each culture represents themselves & how they express their culture.
