 Today in class we talked about what not to do or use in an essay. We talked about the words we aren’t supposed to use and how we always have to write out word that even in “n’t”. The 2 main things we talked about are formal and informal language. We also got vocab words to copy into our notebooks. Something I liked about today was that my friends helped me catch up in the everything I missed. Something I didn’t like about today was that I kept having to blow my nose.

 Today we went over how to successfully write an essay. We learned about clutters and other things. We did a practice clutter that consisted of how to get a job. We wrote job in the center and we did 5 sub topics. After we added 3 details to each of the 5 topics. Something I enjoyed today was that I learned how to make a great essay. Something I did not enjoy about today was that I had a headache majority of the day.

 Today we finished reading the book Fences. Troy has died and Raynell is now 7 years old. Cory is now in the Marines. At first Cory didn’t want to go to the funeral but after him and Raynell sang the song about Blue he decided to go. Rose is not the soul guardian of Raynell. Something I enjoyed about today was that the book had a somewhat good ending. Something I didn’t like was that Cory and Troy never worked out their differences.

We are almost finished with Fences. This book is very interesting. The different things that are happening throughout the story keeps the reader interested and wondering what happens next. We don’t have that many pages left to read and after we finish we have an assessment over it. Something I enjoyed about today was I went to a college fair and received information on colleges. Something I didn’t enjoy about today was how we lost the homecoming game even though it was only 1 point off.

 Today we read some more of the book. I got to play Rose & a lot of interesting things took place to say the least. I think Troy got what he deserves honestly. We also watched a clip from the movie again but we couldn’t finish the clip because it was time to leave. I enjoyed playing Rose. I didn’t like that I messed up some words.

 Today we had a substitute. We received a worksheet based on the book/play we are reading. We answered 1 through 19 and then we were done for the day. While working, I had to get help from a friend to make sure I understood the questions properly. Something that I liked about today was that the environment we were in was very calming and peaceful. There’s nothing that I didn’t like other than it was very cold throughout the school.

 Today we took a common assessment. It was a short story called “For the Love of Books”. I received an 83 on the assessment. I was one of the last few people to finish. A few of my friends got 100’s. A thing I liked about it was that I got to see how a writer began writing. A thing I didn’t like what that I missed a question and missed out on getting a 100.

 Today we read “Fences”. I played the role of the Narrator and it was very fun. I had to introduce some weird things but it was all good. At first I got the part of Rose, then I switched with a classmate. Something I like about today was the conversations we were having as a whole. Something. I didn’t like was that we stopped on a cliffhanger. 

 Today we continued reading the play “Fences”. So far, we have read from act one to about act four. The play is very interesting. I got to play the role of Cory, very interesting guy. He wants to play sports but he can’t keep a job.We also watched a clip of the movie on Netflix but I guess DeKalb doesn’t like Netflix because we kept getting kicked out. I liked that all of us were engaging and laughing at the occurring scenes where a character was singing about judgement day. Something I didn’t like was that we kept getting kicked out of Netflix.

 Today in class we received a play titled “Fences”. We discussed the characters and we watched the trailer of the movie. The actors that were chosen for the movie played their parts to a T and they did amazing. I liked that we all engaged in our conversations on the play. I didn’t like how we didn’t get a chance to start it because was time to go. Today was very fun, better than how the beginning of the week went. 

 Today we read a poem called “Incident” by Countee Cullen. I learned that no matter if you think something isn’t offensive, the tone in which you say it in can be offensive. I also learned the words that offend my fellow classmates and now I know to never use those words with them or anyone else. I liked that all of us could be vulnerable with each other and let each other know what bothers us. I struggled with talking about my word, because it is triggering. Today was kind of hard, I lost my friend Coral over the break so it was a bumpy day.
